Ted Gioia on becoming — quite late — a Dan stan. To me they seem a contradiction: 🎶 music meticulously assembled (not simply played) in the studio that nevertheless seems jazz-inflected, substantially improvised and spontaneous. That’s some trick. I like it but it makes me uneasy.
